Outta Work… Ready To GO!

Unemployed, almost homeless… if I wasn’t about to start traveling i’d be pretty worried about my future.  As it is, now that I’m finished working, I had to actually use the term ‘unemployed’ while filling out a visa application.  Kinda freaked me out a bit.  It all hit home… I am actually unemployed which translates into No More Steady Paycheque!     I am keeping busy though… lots of things still on my ‘to do’ list between condo stuff and travel preps and farewell lunches with friends, I really haven’t had a lot of time to get bored.  The colder weather is signalling to me that it’s almost time to go… I do not want to experience winter for a long while, but it looks like I will get a taste of it before I head to the warmer climes… ie. LA, Hawaii, etc.   I’ve also been spending a lot of time on the website, fixing little bugs and cleaning up old posts before I hit the road.

The time away from work is already having an impact, it seems.  Friends have been saying all week that I have never looked better, I look calm, de-stressed, and healthy.  I do feel it now… it’s taken a few days to feel like I really don’t have to go back to work, in a week or two or whenever this ‘vacation’ is over.  And it should only get better.

On my last day on the job, my co-workers pitched in and bought a Scott-E-Vest Tropical Jacket and a $350 gift certificate to get my backpack and anything else I might need.  I was completely blown away by their generosity.  I had planned to get the Deuter Traveller70 but I tried it on in the store, with weights, twice… and both times it didn’t feel like a good fit.  We made several adjustments, but it just was not working.  So I tried the Pangea60 and found the perfect bag.  Weight distribution is perfect, and there are no issues with chafing (although I’m sure I will find all the little flaws as I carry it on my back for the next two years). I have already loaded it all up, to check the fit, and it looks like everything is going to squeeze in nicely.  Especially with the Scott-E-Vest… it has 18 pockets, and you can use it like a second carry-on.

I am also making sure I have all my visas or at least the forms and photos so I can apply later… unfortunately I got a little over eager and actually got my Australia visa, which is valid for one year from date of issuance.  That means I paid $20 for a visa that will expire 3 months before I visit Australia.

My farewell party is tomorrow (Sat. Nov.6,2010) which I`m  looking forward to.  I`ll get a chance to say goodbye to everyone and celebrate my freedom.

Stay tuned…
